Earlier this month, Bushfire Volunteers President Dave Gossage AFSM and Volunteer Engagement Manager Alex Espey visited Brookton West Volunteer Bushfire Brigade during one of their preseason training sessions.
Key points of discussion at the event included the importance of highlighting local communities and keeping local level decision making at the forefront, when it comes to fire in the community.
This was due to a consistent stream of concerns being raised by the volunteers in attendance about the increased level of red tape coming from the city into the regions, and how it is becoming harder and harder for decisions that should be made locally to be kept local. Thus, creating more work for the already time poor volunteers.
After the event a range of refreshments were thoroughly enjoyed by all involved, courtesy of one of the $500 gift cards donated by the Coles Group and distributed by Bushfire Volunteers.
Bushfire Volunteers was glad to be involved in such a great local event and would like to remind everyone to make sure to continue supporting your local brigade as we get deeper and deeper into the fire season!
