There’s been a lot of discussion over the years about the (appropriately) well-funded DFES FRS training facility in Forrestfield, its “e-academy” and most recently, the proposed $18m Bushfire Centre of Excellence (BCoE), but it’s important to remember that Bushfire Training comes in many forms, and from a number of providers.
And some have well and truly earned their stripes – like the fully volunteer staffed and operated Mundaring Firefighters School which has been quietly training thousands of incredible volunteers since 1995.
In today’s era of instant gratification and 90 second news reports that see journalists blow in and out of towns only when there are flames to see, we reckon it’s a bit sad that those in control of the purse strings tend to control what the rest of us get to see. While the millions being spent on the BCoE in Pinjarra will hopefully deliver a genuinely special service, it is important that we don’t overlook some of the less complicated services that have, and continue to, provide the community with strong return on investment.
So with that, we offer a big thank you to the team at the Mundaring Firefighters School for all you have done for WA over the years and an equally big congratulations to your latest group of graduates.
