Please find below a Fact Sheet recently produced by the Association of Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades (AVBFB) outlining the total amount (operational and capital) of funding provided to Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades as a percentage of Emergency Services Levy (ESL) billed from 2003 to 2018 in Western Australia.
NOTE: The Association of Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades (AVBFB) has been working for many years to bring greater transparency and equity to the ESL process. We are very pleased to report that as a direct result of our persistent, professional advocacy on this issue, we have recently achieved an unprecedented acceptance of the need for genuine reform and take great comfort in positive approach being taken by some key members of Commissioner Klemm’s new leadership team – for which we sincerely thank them.
The chart above plots the dollar amount of Emergency Services Levy (ESL) collected by Local Governments (blue columns) against the total amount (capital and operational) returned to Local Governments to fund Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades (orange line).
The basis of the chart is the raw data in the table below, collated from various documents published on the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) website, accessed 22 June 2019.
