The peak body for Western Australia’s largest emergency service has today launched its ground-breaking podcast, The Unpaid Professionals, documenting and sharing the stories of WA’s diverse and invaluable Local Government Bush Fire volunteers.
Bushfire Volunteers’ President Dave Gossage AFSM said he was extremely proud that the association has developed and launched this exciting new project and called on others to support the great initiative.
“There are more than 20,000 women and men who donate their time and skills to keep our communities safe, yet so many of the decision-makers and ESL-paying land owners don’t even know that this service is not a part of DFES or the State Government,” Mr Gossage said.
“The Unpaid Professionals podcast will help explain the value of WA’s unique Local Government volunteer Bush Fire Service by telling the stories of the individuals and teams who routinely donate their time and leave their homes and families to protect those of others.”
“After the year we’ve all had, The Unpaid Professionals has been launched today to encourage everyone to reflect on the incredible strength, resilience and hope that our volunteer members bring to communities.”
“Despite many hurdles, the association is very proud to be forging ahead with new initiatives like The Unpaid Professionals as part of our quest to increase community awareness of the enormous service of the dedicated women and men of WA’s volunteer Bush Fire Service,” Mr Gossage concluded.
The Unpaid Professionals podcast is currently available by searching most major Podcast platforms or visiting www.bushfire.org.au/UnpaidProfessionals.
