The Association of Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades was invited to meet this week with Stuart Wade, Superintendent Operational Resources, to discuss DFES’ progress on volunteer advisory groups for vehicles, equipment and clothing.
The Association was represented by President Dave Gossage AFSM and Vice President Phil Penny and accompanied by Tony Papafilis.
We appreciate Superintendent Wade accommodating the Association’s volunteer representatives with regard to timing and locale for the meeting.
The Association will support progress of this initiative as it will restore some capacity for volunteers to have input on matters of great importance to them.
The proposed volunteer advisory groups are replacing the former advisory committees that were annulled by DFES about 18 months ago.
The model presented to the Association is very similar to the Pathways advisory structures but with different reporting arrangements.
The three proposed groups are:
· Volunteer Vehicle Advisory Group;
· Volunteer PPC and Uniform Advisory Group;
· Volunteer Operational Equipment Advisory Group.
Dave Gossage and Phil Penny made some preliminary comments on the proposal with further input to be submitted in January. We welcome volunteer feedback as to how you believe these committees could best function and ensure the grass roots volunteers can have their input?
Superintendent Stuart Wade will also consult other emergency volunteer associations before making any refinements.
