A FIREFIGHTER was rushed to hospital after a burning tree branch fell on him as he battled yet another dangerous bushfire in Nambeelup last week.
The man, aged in his 60s, was in a stable condition as residents returned to their homes on Friday when the emergency warning level was downgraded.
A bushfire advice warning remained in place this week as firefighters strengthened containment lines in the area where the blaze had already burnt through about 171ha of land.
The fire came within metres of properties as firefighters worked tirelessly to contain it.
It was not yet known on Monday what started the blaze on December 5, but it came just a week after another bushfire came dangerously close to homes in the area.
That blaze was sparked by a car fire, with police still investigating.
Last week’s blaze saw more than 100 career and volunteer firefighters work to bring it under control.
One home on Bush Retreat came within metres of flames, with resident Kerrie Liddelow praising the efforts of the fireys on hand.
“We would have lost everything last night if it wasn’t for their tenacity and their willingness to put their own lives on the line to save other people’s belongings,” she said last week.
Note: The Association thanks the injured volunteer’s Brigade for the work it is doing to support him and his family.
